Swizzels Refreshers: Flavours, Chew Bars & Chews

Swizzels Refreshers are chewy sweets known for their fizzy sherbet centre. Start with the flavour, then choose between chew bars and smaller chews. A six-bar multipack, a full case and a 3kg bag are different purchases, even though they share the Refreshers name.

What are Refreshers sweets?

Swizzels makes several Refreshers formats. Its range includes chew bars, stickpacks, chews and Choos. The manufacturer describes the chew bars as having a fizzy sherbet centre: the chew and the sherbet are two parts of the same sweet. See the Swizzels range.

There is also a Barratt Refreshers brand, listed in Valeo Foods’ Barratt history. Do not use the name Refreshers on its own to decide what a sweet contains. The HRS collection linked here sells Swizzels products. If you remember a different Refresher sweet, check the brand and format on its wrapper before ordering.

Compare the four HRS Refreshers bar flavours

HRS currently lists original lemon, strawberry, sour apple and cherry cola chew bars. This is our stocked selection, not a claim that Swizzels makes only four flavours. The manufacturer also lists other products in its wider range.

Choose the strawberry-flavour bar if that is the flavour you want. Use its own product declaration when checking ingredients.

The apple option is labelled sour apple. It is a separate recipe and listing from the original lemon bar.

Pack illustrations identify the flavour; the selected quantity and written contents on the product page determine what you receive.

Chew bars, full cases or a 3kg bag of chews?

Compare the Refreshers formats listed at HRS Food
FormatHow it is soldWhat to check
Smaller bar multipackSix or twelve bars of the selected flavourFlavour, count and individual bar weight where stated
60-bar caseA full case of one listed bar flavourLemon is listed as 60 × 18g; use the exact listing for other flavours
36-count original caseA separate original Refreshers listingDo not assume its unit size matches the 60 × 18g case
3kg bulk chewsOne bag sold by total weightSmaller chews, not 3kg of the separately listed bars; no guaranteed piece count

Choose the smallest format that suits your plans, then compare the full cost including delivery. For bars, price per bar helps compare equivalent formats. For a bag of chews, compare total weight. A lower price per piece is not a fair comparison if the pieces have different weights.

For party bags or an event, decide whether you need a known number of bars or a quantity of smaller chews. Do not calculate a guaranteed number of guests from a 3kg bag unless the actual piece count has been checked. Keep the original packs so people can read the ingredient and allergen information.

Are Refreshers vegan, vegetarian, gluten free or halal?

The answer depends on the exact brand, format and recipe. Swizzels’ published lemon chew-bar and strawberry chew-bar pages list those versions as suitable for vegetarians, vegans and coeliacs, and as halal suitable. Both pages declare soya. A suitability statement is not a promise that every Refreshers product or every batch has that recipe.

Swizzels publishes separate ingredient lists for strawberry, sour apple and cherry cola chew bars. Swizzels lists these three named chew-bar versions as vegetarian, vegan, coeliac suitable and halal suitable, with soya declared. See the strawberry, sour apple and cherry cola declarations. Check the current wrapper before eating or serving, and treat stickpacks and Barratt sweets as separate products.

For gluten avoidance, look for a clear statement for the exact product and review its allergens. For halal requirements, check the exact manufacturer declaration and any certification you require. Vegan ingredients alone do not establish halal certification. If a declaration is missing or conflicting, ask before buying.

Common Refreshers questions

What is inside the middle?

Swizzels describes a fizzy sherbet centre in its chew bars. The ingredient and nutrition information belongs to the whole sweet, including the centre.

Do Refreshers contain gelatine?

The current Swizzels lemon and strawberry chew-bar recipes do not list gelatine. The HRS catalogue records checked for lemon 18g bars and 3kg chews also do not list it. Check the exact current wrapper; this does not establish the recipe of every product or past version called Refreshers.

How many calories are in a bar?

Use the current pack’s energy value and individual weight. If only a per-100g figure is given, multiply it by the bar weight and divide by 100. Do not apply an 18g bar figure to a small chew or a different-size stickpack. We have not assigned one calorie figure across recipes.

Have Refreshers been discontinued?

Swizzels still lists a Refreshers range at the time of review. That does not establish availability of every historical flavour or format. Check the current HRS selection for the exact products and stock shown today.
